O-KYC, kicking off the Cetif Advisory

Cetif and Intesa (IBM Group), in collaboration with Cherrychain launch the project to manage the onboarding and Know Your Customer process on DLT/Blockchain

Press releases

Kicking off in June 2020 is the system trial, in cooperation with the Authorities, which will involve Banks, Insurance Companies, Public Administrations and Enterprises in the telecommunications sector, large-scale retail, Energy, Utilities and others.

The objective of the experimentation is to simplify the Onboarding process for the customer and simultaneously streamline and improve the Know Your Customer process.

Milan, July 22, 2020 - The testing phase of the national project, sponsored by CeTIF Advisory and Intesa (IBM Group), in collaboration with the Authorities, CherryChain and IBM, to digitize the Onboarding and Know Your Customer process with DLT/blockchain technology kicked off in June .

The main objective is to simplify, reduce the time and cost of the onboarding process in order to generate efficiency in the internal processes of the companies involved. In fact, the initiative aims at sharing the information necessary for O-KYC processes among participants in the ecosystem through the creation of a wallet that allows the customer to authorize the transfer of their information from the Custodian to the Applicant. All in line with the GDPR regulation on data management, thus ensuring the security of the entire process, full control to the end user of their data and possible remuneration in the form of "tokens" expendable within the ecosystem.

The O-KYC initiative stems from the need, expressed by all system players, to reduce costs, time and complexity that significantly affect the operation of these processes. The O-KYC solution will be developed within an experimentation path on real data called "Sandbox" that has already been successfully tested in the past. The project is overseen by a Stakeholder Committee composed of the initiative members.

Leading the initiative are CeTIF Adivisory, a spinoff ofUniversità Cattolica and Intesa, an IBM Group company, which will be responsible for coordinating and developing the project, as well as adopting a Compliance by Design approach. The project will rely on the application development and integration capabilities of CherryChain, a Fintech startup, and the technology blockchain in IBM cloud under the Startup with IBM program. Many stakeholders have already signed up for the initiative, with more than 15 companies from major national industries having already joined and many more players joining in the running.
