Artificial intelligence relies on algorithms and the growing amount of data to function. Each algorithm has its own peculiarity that makes it particularly well suited to solve a specific set of problems, such as classifiers to detect fraud or regressors to estimate the value of an overdraft as the variables that qualify the borrower and the context change. The financial sector may have many benefits from this, but it is an area that the AI Act itself defines as high-risk, and it is necessary to know the mechanics of how algorithms work and the role that data plays in order to fully assess costs, benefits, and risks (and it is not always appropriate to employ AI).
