IT strategies and innovation in banking

Presentation of the workshop

Significant developments in technology, the growth of new markets and the emergence of increasingly demanding demand segments are pushing banks to redefine their IT strategies in order to create value for the business and gain a competitive advantage over competitors. Moreover, the phenomenon of M&A in the Italian and European banking sector is highly topical and implies, for information systems, an increase in the volume of services offered and the search for ever greater integration of data and systems. In the face of a strategic choice of dimensional growth that is rather widespread within the sector, what seems to be differentiating is in fact the ability to prepare the conditions for systems, processes and organizational mechanisms to change and find a stable configuration in the shortest possible time.Assessments regarding IT strategies are therefore increasingly based on parameters of efficiency and innovation, bringing banks closer to an approach characterized by continuous planning and timely implementation of projects. Based on the above theses, workshop aims to address some of these questions, among others:
  • What is the role of innovation with respect to business strategies in banking?
  • What challenges will CIOs face in helping to achieve the bank's strategic goals?
  • What organization and technology-related projects are being implemented by banks to adapt to changes in size and business environment?
  • What are the main choice variables in defining new organizational configurations of information systems? For example: centralization, rationalization, outsourcing, etc.
  • What is the role of regulatory and coercive forces (compliance and institutions) in the formulation and implementation of IT strategies?
  • What are the evolving trends in information systems and IT Governance strategies to cope with the increasing complexity originating from domestic and international scenarios?
