TheSME - Capital Market Observatory is a collaboration between Consob and Cetif, the Research Center in Technology, Innovation and Financial Services of theUniversità Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, with the aim of analyzing in depth the conditions of access and permanence of Italian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the capital market. The initiative aims to make available to the scientific community, businesses and policy makers a rich base of data, analysis and insights, useful both to guide the strategic decisions of SMEs and to support them in their competitive choices in a changing economic environment.
The aims of the Observatory are multiple: on the one hand, to promote a financial, sustainability and digital culture among Italian SMEs; on the other, to investigate the factors that incentivize companies to embark on paths of competitive growth, innovation and financial development, including through theissuance of bonds and shares or investments in digital, environmental and social transition. The Observatory also aims to analyze contextual elements-regulatory, technological and social-and structural elements, such as governance and business models, that may facilitate or hinder SMEs' recourse to the capital market. In this way, the Observatory aims to offer concrete support to both companies and public decision makers, contributing to the growth and competitiveness of the Italian business fabric.
